Are you looking to host a chic and budget-friendly birthday celebration? With some creativity and smart planning, you can host a magical garden party in your backyard. Here are some tips to help you plan a memorable birthday party while being price-conscious.

Set a Budget First

To kick things off, we created a budget for our dinner party of six. This allowed us to pool resources, giving us more flexibility with decorating and menu planning. A handy tip: ask your guests to bring a bottle of wine! It adds to the celebration without stretching your budget. We chose a garden party theme, a special request from the birthday girl. After doing some research and selecting a color palette, it was time to shop—and believe it or not, we pulled everything together in under a week! The garden theme provided endless possibilities, as gardens are naturally full of diverse colors and textures.

Decorating on a Budget

Using Pinterest as our inspiration, we brought our vision to life. We scoured local thrift stores and online marketplaces for affordable decor like vases, candles, and glassware. Many of the items were repurposed from things we already had, which added a personal and unique touch. The entire dinner party was furnished with second-hand treasures! We found plates, wine glasses, and even a sangria jug at Goodwill and Facebook Marketplace. For the tablecloth, we went to Jo-Ann Fabrics and had it cut to fit our folding table perfectly. We even picked up extra candle holders from the dollar store.

Personalized Menu

For the menu, we got lucky—one of our artistic friends offered to design custom menus for the table! A little tip: if you have a friend who’s talented with design, don’t hesitate to ask for their help. It adds a personal touch without any extra cost. We kept the menu simple with an Italian-themed dinner, and by shopping smart for ingredients, we stayed within budget while still serving up something delicious.

Sangria Station
This is where those extra bottles of wine came in handy—Sangria! We had thrifted a large jug, perfect for serving drinks. Following a simple sangria recipe, we kept the drinks flowing all night. The sangria jug became a centerpiece, placed on a stand by the table so everyone could easily refill their glasses. It was a hit and tied the whole party together.

Embrace Second-Hand Shopping
Throughout the process, we focused on recycling and reusing. Goodwill, Facebook Marketplace, and other second-hand stores became our best friends, helping us stay on budget while creating a unique and memorable experience.

Starting very strong, this will always be a fun dinner party idea and can be done in many different ways! This was my take on it...

Enjoy!
